2010
Sunday 27th June

11am – 4.30pm

The event, now in its third year, continues to grow and is fast gaining the reputation of being the event not to be missed. The village hall will house talented artists, vintage and collectable bears, along with the display of entries to the Bartie Bristle Excellence Award. This year the title for the competition is ‘Bartie’s Prop - osal’ “We have given the artists an unusual challenge and we hope to get their creative juices flowing” Say Julie and Amanda. “Last year the standard was extremely high and deciding a winner was no easy task for our judges.”

Jo Rothery with McBear, and the Hon Ralph Montagu and his wife Ailsa will be joined by Danni Hubbard as the judges this year.  Danni of Barrel Bears won the competition last year with her fantastic tableau of bears playing croquet.

The ever popular artist ‘Jill Fry’ will be offering portrait sittings of your favourite bear, while you wait and Susan from Bear Basics will be setting up shop so you can stock up on lovely mohair and all other bear making supplies. Look out for Kathy Martin who will be signing copies of her latest book all about the history of Farnell.

Bear It In Mind will be the central information point for visitors and exhibitors.  The attached studio will contain various exhibits and a raffle with some very tempting prizes up for grabs. This year Amanda and Julie are delighted to announce that the festival will be supporting ‘Honeypot’ a local charity providing holidays for under privileged children. There will be live music over the lunch time provided by ‘The Purbeck Big Band’ who will play their concert over the lunch time. This performance will be free but a collection will be made with the proceeds going directly to Honeypot. This will be a wonderful addition to the already popular Teddy Bears’s Picnic area. The playing field can be accessed from the forecourt and is pushchair and wheelchair accessible. Alongside this there will be an auction, Beary games, Teddy Bears picnic area, refreshments and family friendly activities.

Over on the school forecourt there will be bear making demonstrations, Story telling, a teddy workout, games and fun. Each event will be timetabled so that visitors can plan their day. Andy West of Westie Bears fame will be running a brooch making workshop.  This class will run at a cost of £5.00 with all proceeds benefitting Honeypot.  (Please contact us to reserve a place.)

The Teddy Town crier will be on hand to remind everyone of start times so you won’t miss out on any of the fun. Bartie Bristle will be out and about with Julie and Amanda. He is hosting the annual convention photo. Every year the number of Bartie’s grow and it is lovely that so many come back to be a part of the day.

Plenty of free parking will be available at the National Motor Museum and there will be a complimentary park and ride bus service to the village throughout the day.  Visitors may choose to walk to Beaulieu along the woodland path and this takes 10 – 15 minutes.

So don’t forget to make a note in your diary and come and join us for a beary special day in the New Forest.
Please note that this is a FREE event and the postcode for your sat nav is SO42 7ZN.

STOP PRESS.......

Patricia Banks has created this beautiful bear (Skye) - (see pic below) especially to celebrate 10 years of Dari Laut Bears and is donating it to Vitalise to help raise much needed funds. Thank you Patricia!

Skye is now at Bear It In Mind if you would like to come and see him.  If you are unable to attend the festival, come and place a silent bid now!

Mr Green Paw (see pic below) has been donated by Teddy Bear's Home to raise funds for Vitalise!   He is a beautiful Robin Rive mohair collectable wearing his straw hat and carrying a garden rake. He can also be seen in the shop so early bids can be made. Thank you Pat and Carol!

We will be running silent auctions for both of these bears throughout festival day with the results being announced at the end.

Skye is made using white windswept Schulte mohair and has hand painted blue sparkly eyes. He has a needle sculpted face. One of his suede paws has been decorated with seed beads in the shape of a heart.  He has nut and bolt joints to make him strong, and is filled with Polyester/ Elastain and plastic pellets. To give Skye a bit of a distinction he has a hand embroidered, variegated blue nose which matches the beads on his foot. Skye also wears a medallion celebrating 10 years of Dari Laut Bears on a blue ribbon.  Skye stands at 15 inches high.

Congratulations on 10 years of Dari Laut Bears!
